President Eisgruber celebrates Shabbat at the CJL

With Dean’s Day and finals around the corner, Shabbat dinner is welcome downtime for students and was made even more special by the presence of Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber. Eisgruber joined students for Shabbat dinner followed by informal conversation in the Green Room, a favorite student hangout at the CJL. Every week, more than 175 students enjoy Shabbat dinner in the CJL dining hall. President Eisgruber, who discovered his own Jewish roots in 2008, told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz in 2013 that, “Understanding myself as Jewish helps me understand who I am, what the experiences of my family are and the set of cultural traditions from which I emerge.” Eisgruber and students had the opportunity to bond over a mutual heritage and to discuss issues of the day.
