Shira Cohen '16 , Charleston, SC

When I first arrived on Princeton's campus, I was a shy freshman certain that I was incapable of public speaking and visible leadership. From the first moments of pre-OA (Outdoor Action) Shabbat to the opportunity to serve on the CJL's Freshman Council, the entire CJL – the staff, peer leaders, and community at large – nurtured me and encouraged me to step up in ways I would have never considered. Through my experiences with the Jewish Life Council fellowship cohort to the student board to the denizens of the Green Room, the CJL community brought me a level of comfort and belonging that grounded me during my time at Princeton and lovingly challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone.

I credit the CJL community for my ability to step up and speak out – be it giving announcements at Shabbat dinner, participating on a panel at the L’Chaim Conference celebrating 100 years of Jewish life at Princeton, or sharing my opinion – and for this, I am grateful.

Join us in helping to ensure that current and future Jewish students at Princeton have the same opportunities as I did.
